I bought my first copy of The Spiral Dance at the Walden Books in my local mall in 1986. This was about the same time I purchased the Aquarian Tarot and a mass market paperback of A.E. White’s The Pictorial Key to Tarot. I fell in love with Starhawk immediately and David Palladini’s artwork inspired a lot of High Fantasy daydreams. A.E. White was a real bummer and his approach to Tarot made me lose interest in learning more about it for decades. Anyway…

I have a degree in Religion from Bryn Mawr College. In the classroom, I learned a lot about women in the early church and noncanonical Gospels and Jewish mysticism and the nexus of beliefs we call Gnosticism. On my own time, I read a lot of books about goddess religion and matriarchal prehistory that I would later reject and then, later still, approach with a little more generosity and less of a need to be right.

Today, I work as a freelance writer, public servant, community organizer, and activist. I launched Postmodern Witch to share some of what I’ve learned and to create a community of teachers, makers, and learners who understand that the spiritual is political. Subscribing to Postmodern Witch on Substack and following Postmodern Witch on Instagram are the best ways to join this community in the making.
